Military Wedding Officiant in Oklahoma

Military Wedding Ceremonies Military service members have a special place in the hearts and minds of every wedding minister in Norman, Oklahoma at Lifelong Wedding Ceremonies. There is so much sacrifice. Indeed, life in the military is full of hardships and sacrifices that most people will never know unless they or their immediate family member are in it. When members of the armed forces decide to tie the knot and celebrate their nuptials together, our ordained ministers stand ready and willing to assist them.

Special Considerations for Marrying People in the U.S. Armed Forces:

Our wedding chaplains realize that marrying military couples also comes with special challenges, opportunities, and circumstances. Since many of us ourselves veterans or have immediate family members who were, we have a better understanding of the struggles that these individuals can and often do go through on a day-to-day basis.

Short Timeframes in Which to Get Married:

Some armed forces service members may only be in the same city and state to marry one another for a brief time. They may just be coming back from a military deployment or might be about to ship out for training or a faraway work assignment. Thus, time may be an issue, and the military couple may need a same day wedding elopement or simple signing package. Not to fear though, because we have you covered!

Our wedding ministers will go out of their way to meet the needs of active military service members, such as those in the U.S. Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, and the Oklahoma National Guard. Indeed, our organization even assists with recruiting for the U.S. Air Force. Indeed, many of our wedding pastors are either former military personnel or have immediate family members who served in a branch of the armed forces.

Thus, we give our military couples priority when selecting wedding dates, and if they are working with a short timeframe, we will do our absolute best to get them in before they depart. This is true even if it means our ordained ministers must work overtime to work them into their schedule in-between other marriage ceremonies they already have scheduled. We really love our military couples, veterans, and their families, and we will do whatever it takes to help them enjoy their extra special day!

Military Clothing Worn During Wedding Ceremonies:

Some military spouses choose to wear their military uniforms during their wedding ceremony. They may be extra proud of their service and/or may be there with fellow service members. Other armed forces members may do so to honor their country and/or family members, so there are many reasons they may choose to come dressed in their class A military uniforms to get married in. Our marriage officiants are as respectful of this as are military chaplains, and thus members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Marines, and Oklahoma National Guard may wear whatever makes them happiest.

Inability to Travel Far from a Military Post or Base:

Some military personnel are unable to travel long distances away from their military posts like Fort Still, Oklahoma and Tinker Air Force Bade in Midwest City, Oklahoma. Military commanders may have issued certain travel restrictions which prohibit travel outside of certain areas, and/or they may have to return to a military base, post, or fort soon. Thus, our justice of the peace can travel to them to help the bride and groom, groom and groom, bride, and bride, or two partners tie the knot close to their armed forces facility.

Our military wedding ministers have traveled wide and far to other locations that better suit the needs of our country’s service members. For an extra fee to cover mileage and time, we will gladly go anywhere you need us to help meet your needs on your special wedding day. Indeed, military service members remain our number one priority.

Needing to Bring Family & Friends in Via Zoom/Facetime/Skype:

Due to long distances between family members and friends of those serving our country in the military, it is sometimes necessary to make special accommodations for them to have video cameras, extra cell phones, and a strong Wi-Fi connection available so their loved one can attend remotely. Our ordained officiants will happily wait and will help ensure a smooth connection so everyone can attend.

Requiring Extra Certified Copies of Marriage Licenses for Military Purposes:

The military often requires extra certified copies of marriage licenses, after our justice of the peace in Lawton, OK officiates their non-religious wedding. Thus, our marriage pastors remind them to get extra certified copies of their wedding license, especially if one or both people legally changed her/his/their names. Fortunately, these copies are inexpensive to receive, and many courthouses even give active members of the U.S. Military two extra copies for free as a, “Thank you” for their service.

Of course, aside from needing them for military purposes, there are also some other reasons that a couple will need extra certified copes of their marriage license for include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Social Security Cards
  • Bank Accounts
  • Debit/Credit Cards
  • Driver’s License
  • Passports
  • Health/Dental/Life Insurance Policies

Thus, our Army chaplains always recommend securing some extra copies of a completed, file-stamped marriage license, because they are only two dollars and each place that oversees items above will want a separate, certified copy to make the changes.

Difficulties Married Military Spouses Face:

Sadly, many military marriages end in divorce, not only for enlisted personnel but also for commissioned officers. Our premarital counselors in Oklahoma know that much of this is due to the distance between the couples, even if they are legally married. There is sadly an old saying in the military that, “. . . if the Army [or other military branch] had wanted military personnel to have families, they would have issued them one when they signed up.”

Indeed, eighty percent of all military marriages end in divorce, though the number of divorcing enlisted personnel tends to be more than twice as high than commissioned officers. This may be due in part to the greater amount of money that commissioned military personnel can earn compared to their equally important enlisted colleagues, thus possibly making financial stress on a marriage less of an issue in some cases for commissioned military officers.

Time overseas and otherwise on extended deployments where both spouses are not together takes its toll on marriages, as can combat stress and PTSD issues. Some branches tend to have higher divorce rates than others, too, so divorce rates in the military are more complex and complicated. Not to worry though, because our ordained ministers offer premarital counseling services and mediation services tailored to the special needs and circumstances that military service members often have.

Most couples, whether those serving in the U.S. Armed Forces or not, need counseling during their marriage at some point if they remain together long enough. This is completely normal, because life sometimes brings up difficult, challenging situations with illnesses, deaths, imprisonments, job changes and losses, moves, aging parents, raising kids, marital infidelity, schooling, addictions, and the many demands that today’s society places upon couples. Is it any wonder everyone is not divorced?

Our premarital counselors in Oklahoma work diligently with military couples to conduct premarital and marital counseling sessions. We have been helping brides, grooms, and other nonbinary wedding partners for many years and will be happy to help guide you through the process as well.

For those couples seeking to get married who opt for premarital counseling, they can enjoy the benefits of sitting down and having a thorough discussion first. Plus, they enjoy a forty-five-dollar discount when they get their marriage license. This is because they will only pay five dollars instead of fifty dollars, when they turn in the special form our ordained officiant will provide them upon completing it. Many wedding couples do not take advantage of this valuable offer, and they miss out on its benefits.

When couples struggle during their lifetimes together as many couples sometimes do, the wise ones will get counseling. Our chaplains have many years of experience working with couples seeking some objective, outside assistance to those needing help. All premarital and marital counseling is completely confidential and is not disclosed to military personnel or other organizations/individuals without the express permission of both people seeking our ministerial marriage counseling services.

Other Benefits We Offer to Military Personnel Seeking to Get Married:

Aside from the things we described above, both active duty, reserve, and honorably discharged prior service military veterans who ask upfront all receive an additional fifteen percent off all wedding, premarital counseling, and marital counseling services with our wedding ministers, premarital counselors, and minister counseling. This is just another of the many ways our organization tries to give back to those who have served our country and who rightfully deserve our thanks a sincere gratitude.
